Blount was a three-sport athlete at Linsly High School in Wheeling, W Va., as he lettered in football, basketball and track and field. He finished his senior season with 30 sacks as he reaped First Team All-Conference honors in football. He also was tabbed the W Va., Football Player of the Week, the team Most Valuable Player and was the team?s captain. Also a basketball player, Blount averaged 24 points a game as he earned First Team All-Conference honors. In his junior season, Blount earned First Team All-Conference honors in both football and basketball. Also, he led his AAU team to a No. 25 final ranking, Blount recalls his best high school performance was against Gilmour Academy as he recorded five sacks, one pass break up, once forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Against Wheeling Central, Blount recorded one punt return for 67 yards, two TD receptions to go along with 200 yards receiving. In basketball, Blount scored a career high 40 points against Bishop Donahue and recorded a 38 point, 20 rebounds, and four assists against Trinity.
Akil Blount was born on July 2, 1994 to Mel and TiAnda Blount in Pittsburgh, Pa. He has two siblings Jibri and Khalid?. Father Mel Blount is a member of the NFL Hall of Fame, honored as a defensive back with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
