Crockett Gillmore

DE, TE · Colorado State
Colorado State will certainly keep recruiting Bushland, Texas considering that two of its best NFL prospects in years - Gillmore and center Weston Richburg - were teammates in Texas before signing with the Rams. While Richburg has steadily emerged as one of the more polished centers in the country, Gillmore's length and athleticism caused the CSU coaching staff to move him back and forth between defensive end and tight end early in his career. Once he made the permanent move to the offensive side of the ball in 2011, Gillmore proved an immediate standout, catching a career-high 45 passes for 468 yards and four touchdowns, earning Second Team All-Mountain West accolades. His production tailed considerably in 2012 (19-263-2) before finishing his career on a high note as a senior (43-533-2). Gillmore's stock is again on the rise as he made some eye-popping grabs as a late injury replacement at the Senior Bowl practices and the game, itself. Considering that he has only played the position for three years, Gillmore offers intriguing upside which could earn him a selection above other, more polished and well-known prospects at the position.

natural hands for the reception. high-points passes, showing impressive hand-eye coordination, timing on his leap and overall body control. competitive blocker who gets a solid initial shove on the defender and works to sustain. shows some nastiness as a blocker, knocking defenders to the ground when he senses them off-balance.

WEAKNESSES

lacks ideal initial burst off the snap and is only a fair athlete, overall. lumbers a bit off the line of scrimmage, showing only average top-end speed. doesn't explode out of his cuts, struggling to create consistent separation against man coverage. could use more upper body development.

COMPARES TO

strengths

Good size potential. Possesses broad shoulders, long arms and a thick lower half. Has improved as a route-runner, showing a nice shoulder-dip to slip past defenders at the line of scrimmage, as well as fair agility, balance and burst to create separation.

jeff king, arizona cardinals - gillmore isn't an elite athlete who will zip past nfl defenders, but even when he's covered closely his hand-eye coordination and big, soft mitts make him a solid short-yardage and red-zone target worthy of a roster spot.
