Marques Hagans
positives
Has a compact frame with lean muscle tone, good bubble and tapered thighs and calves...Despite his size, he has been a durable athlete, never missing playing time due to injury...Lacks top game-breaking speed, but has the loose hips and explosive burst to make tacklers miss...Has adequate quickness in his setup and flicks the ball out with good velocity in his release...Has enough arm strength to make all the throws and does a good job of scanning the field...Can buy time when flushed out of the pocket with his scrambling ability...Unquestioned leader on the field who has a good work ethic... Does a good job of hitting his receivers in stride in the short area and shows the touch to feather the ball over defenders without having to have his targets make adjustments in their routes...Shows adequate ability to read progressions and find his secondary targets...Very capable of throwing on the run and when forced to run for cover, he has the hip snap and plant-and-drive agility to redirect and find cutback lanes,,,Has enough elusiveness to escape the pass rush and blitz.
he has an adequate arm with good flick on his short passes and the ability to "drop it in the bucket" over the defender's head when throwing long. he is a dangerous threat to gain valid yardage with his feet and is capable of throwing on the run. he knows how to buy time when he is flushed out of the pocket, but hagans is also prone to costly mistakes. he will throw into traffic because of his penchant for going for the big play rather than moving the chains, at times.
Hagans has good control in the huddle, but can be flustered by constant pressure, and that is when he makes costly mistakes. He is capable of making proper reads to spot his secondary targets, but at 5-foot-9, his only hope of staying at quarterback is either in the Arena or Canadian leagues.
negatives...too small to be an nfl quarterback, but showed a willingness to change positions in post-season workouts...has a bit of a wind-up in his release...more quick than fast, but does not have the speed to win many foot races in the open, limiting his chances for a possible shift to receiver...pocket pressure causes him to get rattled some and make poor decisions, forcing the ball into traffic rather than throwing it away, resulting in 12 interceptions in 2005.
Hagans is a mobile player who will be on the move in the NFL. He reminds me a bit of Antwaan Randle El, only not as fast. He has experience at a variety of positions and later in the draft, could be a valuable pickup because of his ability to perform in a variety of roles.
No injuries reported.
