A part-time contributor entering 2015, Chesson tallied career-bests with 50 catches for 764 yards and nine touchdowns in 2015, garnering First Team All-Big Ten honors from the league coaches - ahead of Ohio State's Michael Thomas, who was a top 50 draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. ANALYSS STRENGTHS: Chesson is a loose athlete with galloping speed to easily accelerate in his routes and find open pockets in coverage. He catches the ball well in stride with the locating skills to adjust without slamming on the breaks, creating after the catch with finishing speed and a legitimate fifth gear. Chesson is tough and assertive in traffic and competes with a fearless demeanor that allows him to use his length and attack the ball in a crowd. WEAKNESSES: While he has the desired height and toughness for the position, Chesson is very lean with little muscle definition. He is tough-minded, especially in contested situations, but his lack of ideal play strength shows on tape, allowing physical defenders to overpower him. Although he has reliable hands, Chesson is prone to body catches and needs to add polish to his route tree. While he came up big down the stretch last season, NFL scouts want to see him be more of a consistent threat the entire season in 2016 (first nine games: 23/259/3; final four games: 27/505/6). COMPARES TO: Mario Manningham, ex-Giants/49ers -- It is tough to study Chesson on tape without having flashbacks of Mario Manningham. The same blue jersey and No. 86 certainly helps the comparison, but so does the tall, lanky frame with fleet-of-foot athleticism that makes him a dangerous scoring threat. IN OUR VIEW: At this time in 2015, Michigan prospects Jake Rudock and Graham Glasgow were projected as undrafted free agents, but the coaching and development of Jim Harbaugh helped turn both into draft picks. Chesson also benefited from his coach's instruction as he put up career numbers as a junior and enters 2016 as arguably the No. 1 senior wide receiver prospect in the country. Manningham had more explosive plays on his collegiate tape, but Chesson is a more dependable target and his development toward the end of last season signals a potential breakout senior year if he develops chemistry with Michigan's new starting quarterback. --Dane Brugler, @dpbrugler (8/21/16)
