David Mayo

Named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and All-SBC First Team after racking up 154 total tackles to tie a conference single-season record. He had two games with 20-plus tackles and forced three fumbles. The Scappoose, Ore. native played in the East-West Shrine game as a high school senior. His first impact at Texas State came in 2012, when he started the first seven games and made 41 tackles before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Mayo played in 10 games with nine starts the following season, earning second-team all-conference honors while averaging 8.9 tackles per game.
