Andrew Hartline

OG, OT · Central Michigan
The epitome of dependability for the Chippewas, Hartline started 52 games over his career, starting the final two years at left tackle. After earning second-team All-MAC honors at right tackle in 2006, Hartline moved to the left side as a junior, earning second-team honors again in 2007. A first-team pick as a senior, Hartline has the build scouts look for at tackle, along with plenty of experience in Central Michigan's pass-heavy offense. Hartline lacks the foot speed teams prefer on the blind side, but his savvy, dependable play will be sure to earn him looks on the second day of the draft.

positives

Good initial quickness off the snap. ... Good initial hand punch to stun the defender as he eases into his pass set. ... Long arms that he uses well in pass protection to control his opponent. ... Good balance. ... Cerebral player who recognizes blitzes and adjusts accordingly. ... Effective zone blocker who can turn his opponent and wall him off from the hole. ... Surprisingly quick to the second level and shows at least adequate agility to block in space.

negatives

Plays high. ... Marginal hand placement. ... Allows his hands to slip to the sides and back of the defender, resulting in slipped blocks. ... Lacks the elite foot speed to slow speed rushers. ... Marginal drive blocker. ... Struggles with leverage and has only marginal upper-body strength to generate movement.
