Recent Max Hall Notes
Max Hall
setup/release
Typically throws out of the shotgun, but is solid with his drop and balance, even working in play-action when his pocket is strong. Quick release gives him a chance to complete throws despite average arm. Small size makes him rely on big passing lanes. Adequate ball fake. Gets happy feet and loses most of his accuracy under duress.
reading defenses
Intelligent player who sees the blitz and finds the hot read. Knows where to put the ball against zone coverages. Recognizes a free play and will throw downfield. Forces balls into coverage on occasion, especially under duress and when his arm can't deliver what his mind believes. A bit slow to come off first option at times.
arm strength
Average arm strength, just enough to effectively move the ball via the short passing game. Puts some zip on shorter throws, even on the run, because of a tight spiral. Lofts the ball deep, with only adequate height on his trajectory. Underthrows receivers down the sideline too often. Good touch on throws to the flat and fade routes.
intangibles
Team captain. Mature leader on and off the field. Married. Active in the LDS religion and community work. Intense, tough, durable player who bounces back from big hits. Gives his all in every game.
on the move
Mobile enough to get first downs with his feet or get a few yards after a busted play. Likes to go head-first to get the extra yard. Somewhat elusive in the pocket; can run outside or spin off the average defenders to evade the sack. Keeps his shoulders square on the move and can complete passes on misdirection plays. Able to complete 15-20 passes running to his right, but lacks the arm strength to consistently do the same to his left. Lowers his head when flushed inside instead of using his vision as a runner or to find receivers downfield.
accuracy
Accurate enough to get the ball to his man on short throws and will find a seam or the hole in a zone. Doesn't always give open receivers room to make a play after the catch. Will hang his man out to dry over the middle and make him work a bit when standing still. Not accurate on deep outs. High completion percentage a result of throwing many short passes.
