Georgia quarterbacks getting equal time in practice
Carson Beck
Overview:
Carson Beck will be a 5th-year senior in 2024, but last year was his first season as a full-time starter. He sat behind Bulldogs QB Stetson Bennett for three years and two National Championships. So, 2023 was Beck’s first season encounter with the pressure of coming into a winning situation. He led Georgia to both a winning season and a bowl win and finished with 3,941 pass yards, 24 TDs, six INTs, and an impressive completion percentage of 72.4.
Analysis
Strengths:
Many believe Beck is the best of the three top-rated quarterbacks going into 2024. In terms of measurables, he possesses the ideal size (6-4, 215 pounds). Pre- and post-snap, he displays an exceptional ability to process man and zone coverages, throws with great anticipation, and is extremely accurate to all levels. He also shows a nice touch, taking something off a throw and dropping it into the hands of a covered receiver.
Beck also has a better-than-average arm to fit throws into tight windows. He has excellent pocket presence but won’t shred a defense with his legs in space. Beck is enough of an athlete to evade pressure and extend a play, and he is capable of and willing to pick up yards in space when there is an opening. Outside the pocket, Beck has the field savvy to keep his head up and find receivers working back to him.
Weaknesses:
While Beck’s arm is good enough to make every throw, he does not have the arm talent to sling it 60 yards effortlessly. So don't expect him to make the big-time ‘wow’ throws that you see from a Mahomes or Allen. He is usually accurate but ball placement can be a bit of an issue for him on deep throws. There’s room for improvement in that area in 2024.
Summary:
Beck’s 2023 campaign was impressive from an efficiency standpoint, but the numbers may not pop enough — especially since those numbers came in just one year of production — for some to give him his just due. Beck is polished and has the makings of a franchise player. We think he will have a better season in 2024 and generate legit buzz from teams going into next year's draft.

Frankly: Beck is physically superior to his predecessor, two-time National Champion QB Stetson Bennett, which isn't saying a lot. But that comparison may tend to boost Beck's ratings higher than warranted. He is good, especially at sorting things out pre-snap, but let's see more arm strength and downfield accuracy, which he will need to succeed at the next level. He must show he can strike fear in defenses.
