Kevin White

WR · West Virginia
White was a stand-out in high school, but didn't have the grades and enrolled at Lackawanna College (Pa.) where he played two seasons and attracted the attention of several FBS schools, deciding to transfer to West Virginia over Texas Tech due to the offensive system and proximity to home. He started nine games as a junior in 2013, recording 35 catches for 507 yards and five scores. With a full year under his belt, White emerged as one of college football's best wide receivers as a senior, finishing third in the FBS in catches (109) and sixth in receiving yards (1,447) in 2014, earning First Team All-Big 12 honors and several All-American nods. White was invited to the 2015 Senior Bowl and initially accepted before deciding not to play while preparing for the Scouting Combine.

efficient route runner with dynamic moves at the top of his routes, stacking cornerbacks and using body leverage to play the ball - emphatic depth and stems to sell and fool defenders...doesn't slow at the catch point with the hand/eye coordination to secure in stride...good body strength to run through arm tackles and fight for every yard, keeping his momentum going forward and pumping his legs to fight for every inch...improved decision-maker and reactive vision after the catch, showing nifty moves and sharp cuts to read blocks and create - knows where the sticks are...aggressive and willing blocker with a strong competitive spirit...gives consistent effort on and off the field as a student of the game.

Top shelf production as a senior, becoming the second player in program history to eclipse 1,400 receiving yards in a season and third player to hit triple digit receptions in a single season.

the best receiver in this draft class at attacking the ball, white is never truly covered with his ability in jump-ball situations to track and highpoint - high success rate in contested situations. he is a much improved route runner with an understanding of how to stack defenders and work back to the ball with excellent coordination.

White lacked polish in 2013, but his light bulb is now at full glow - although his timed speed doesn't always translate to the field, the game doesn't move too fast for him. He doesn't have the sudden burst to instantly create separation when he wants, but White has the instincts, ballskills and competitive nature needed to be a No. 1 target in a NFL offense - one of the top-seven players in the 2015 NFL Draft.

strengths

Well-built for the position with good height and length...smooth athleticism in his patterns and after the catch, reaching his top speed quickly with excellent route acceleration...natural body control and outstanding concentration through the catch to be a reliable finisher...above average ballskills and adjustment skills to elevate and attack with power and a physical attitude - at his best highpointing in jump ball situations even with defenders draped all over him, plucking the ball away from his body with suction hands.

will round some routes and needs to iron out some wrinkles with his patterns...good effort blocker, but struggles to consistently sustain and will get caught holding down the field...although it doesn't happen often, he will have focus drops off his hands...only one year of top production in an offensive system that creates a number of opportunities.

IN OUR VIEW

weaknesses

Relies on his acceleration downfield, lacking ideal burst to create clear separation...won't dance his way out of trouble or consistently make defenders miss in small spaces...shows the foot quickness to beat press at the line of scrimmage with a nice outside-in move, but rarely challenged or jammed in the Big 12 - methodical off press, counting his steps and not using his hands.
