Quandre Diggs

CB, FS · Texas
A four-star cornerback recruit out of high school, Diggs received offers from just about every program in the country, but committed to Texas as a junior, the same school as his older brother, Quentin Jammer. He was inserted into the starting line-up as a true freshman and made a splash with 19 passes defended and four interceptions, earning All-American and Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors. Diggs started all 13 games as a sophomore in 2012 and led the team in passes defended (11) and interceptions (four), adding 59 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss. He started 12 games as a junior in 2013 and led the team in passes defended (10), earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors. Diggs moved to more of a nickelback role and started all 13 games in 2014 as a senior, finishing with a career-high in tackles (73), earning First Team All-Big 12 honors. He earned an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.

weaknesses

Short stature and below average arm length...lack of size and catching radius shows up in highpoint situations as he was easily out-leaped by most pass-catchers in college...caught flat-footed and allows receivers to box him out and win body position, eliminating him from the catch point.

determined to match his brother's career as one of the best defensive backs to go through austin, diggs' career at texas started with high expectations after a breakout freshman campaign, but his game seemed to level off the last few seasons.

An extra coach on the field for the Longhorns with his veteran presence, Diggs has the intangibles and pedigree that will make him attractive to NFL coaches, but his lack of height, length and speed show up quite a bit on tape. Diggs likely needs a cover-2 or zone scheme where he might be able to survive inside as a nickel corner with his instincts and competitive toughness, but his NFL upside is limited.

strengths

Adequate muscle and functional strength for the position...balanced athlete to sink-and-drive...collects himself well in space to plant, gather and attack with closing burst...plays fast and decisive downhill as a run defender...physical striker and enjoys contact...aggressive at the catch point to deliver hits and separate man from ball.

needs to improve his eye discipline with streaky route anticipation and reaction time - needs to improve his understanding of spacing...gets his hands on the ball, but has a few dropped interceptions on his game film...too hands-on downfield and will attract yellow flags...lack of core power and length leads to him falling off bodies, struggling to finish tackles...inconsistent pursuit skills and unreliable as an open-field tackler...receivers can block him out of the play without much fuss.

In Our View

tracks the ball well over his shoulder with natural ballskills...instinctive nose for the ball, putting himself in position to make plays...highly competitive and tough, both physically and mentally...played both inside and outside, playing primarily in the nickel as a senior...special teams experience as a return man on punts (29/326/11.2/0) and kickoffs (20/392/19.6/0)...good production on his resume with 48 passes defended and 11 interceptions in his career...passionate about the game and works his tail off...vocal leader in the locker room and quickly earns the respect of coaches...durable with 49 career starts in college and no serious injuries.
