Boise State adds versatile, explosive athlete from Texas to 2024 recruiting class
UPDATED AUGUST 07, 2023 5:04 PM
After an early focus on defense, the Boise State football team has been busy recently adding to the offensive arsenal in its 2024 recruiting class.
The Broncos picked up a verbal commitment Monday from Cameron Bates, an explosive athlete from Arlington, Texas.
Boise State scored what may be its biggest recruiting win in program history Saturday when Burley wide receiver Gatlin Bair — the top-ranked recruit in Idaho — joined the class. The Broncos also added three-star quarterback Kaleb Annett last month.

Bates committed to the Broncos as a wide receiver, but he’s a dual-threat quarterback at Mansfield Timberview High in Texas. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound athlete posted 1,049 passing yards, 477 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns last season.
He doesn’t have a rating from 247Sports yet, but he does have scholarship offers from Texas Tech, Sam Houston State and Toledo. He just announced his offer from Boise State on Aug. 1.
Boise State will see some turnover at wide receiver after this season. Stefan Cobbs and Billy Bowens are both out of eligibility after this year, and Shea Whiting may be, too. The team’s top wide receiver from last season, Latrell Caples, is expected back next year after he will miss this season with a leg injury.
The Broncos have some exciting young receivers who will have a chance to step up this year, including 6-3 redshirt freshman Eric McAlister and 6-5 freshman Prince Strachan.
