Which recruits stood out at Ohio State football’s third 2023 June day camp? Buckeyes Recruiting
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State football program on Wednesday held its third of five June day camps, featuring the largest amount of offers to come out of any camp so far. Multiple positions provided reasons to be intrigued by the prospects in attendance, whether because of already committed members of the 2024 class, or new emerging prospects. Representing the commit side of things were four-star offensive lineman Ian Moore and four-star linebacker Garrett Stover. 2024 four-star target Damarion Witten was also in attendance fresh off his official visit to Kentucky. Here’s a rundown of everything that happened on June 14: • Moore has spent a ton of time in Columbus over the past seven days. He attended OSU’s first camp last Thursday alongside fellow offensive lineman Marc Nave ahead of their official visit. Then he came back this Wednesday to work with Justin Frye some more. This trip gave him a chance go up against Zahir Mathis, the No. 38 player and No. 6 edge rusher in the 2025 class. The two went up against each other six times with Moore winning six. Doing so provided a chance for Moore to show how much he’s grown over the past year, while Mathis got a taste of what top competition looks like. • If Ohio State is going to have a second tight end in this class alongside four-star Max LeBlanc, it’s going to be Witten. That’s the only way it’s worth it because if not, tight ends coach Keenan Bailey will shift his focus to future classes. With Witten a Glenville kid, OSU has as good a chance as any at landing him. But Kentucky has made a significant push aided by a quality official visit over the weekend. • Stover got a chance to work with James Laurinaitis and Jim Knowles after attending his first camp this summer. When he first committed there were still questions of whether he’d end up at linebacker or safety long term. Seeing how he’s filled out over the past year, it’s clear his future is at linebacker in this defensive scheme. • Trey McNutt got a chance to work with Tim Walton one on one before the camp started as a 2025 prospect out of Shaker Heights. He spent the day at cornerback, but he could also end up as a safety at the college level, flashing a couple of quality plays as well. He is the son of former Ohio State defensive back Richard McNutt, who played for the Buckeyes from 1999-02. He is now in his second season as Tennessee State’s defensive back coach. Who earned an offer? • Joshua Moore became the first wide receiver to earn an offer at a camp this summer as a 2025 wide receiver out of Florida. The four-star recruit is the nation’s No. 298 player and No. 42 wide receiver, with OSU serving as his 28th offer. • Fellow Florida prospect Javian Mallory earned an offer as a 2026 running back after having an impressive day working with Tony Alford. • Ohio State pulled offensive tackle Miles Walker out of the Brunswick School in Connecticut in 2023 and now it’s made two other players from the school targets in the 2025 class. Matty Augustine earned an offer as an offensive tackle while Ethan Long earned one as a safety.
