Meet the Mid: Senior Kicker Evan Warran
Name: Evan Warren Nickname: Finksburg's Finest Year: 2024 Position: Place Kicker Height: 5'10" Weight: 175 Hometown: Finksburg, Md. High School: Westminster High School Major: Honors Political Science What do you want to do after graduation and why? Fly Navy. The process-oriented approach, competitive nature and squadron lifestyle all appeal to me. I also get a child-like exuberance from actually being up in the air. After my naval service, I hope to pursue a career in law or politics, focusing on environmental protection and sustainability. Why did you choose Navy? It was an easy choice. I sought a top education and a premier FBS football program--Navy has both, plus the opportunity to grow as a person and leader and the perks of being situated in downtown Annapolis. What would you tell somebody that is considering coming to Navy to play football? An offer to the Naval Academy is life-changing. Not only do you have the opportunity to pursue a fruitful football career, but you also have the security of knowing that rewarding naval service awaits you after your playing days are over. Not to mention, the privilege and significance of the Navy Football Brotherhood has only grown in the era of the transfer portal and NIL. We're building something special here with Coach Newberry and his staff. If you could play another position, what position would you play and why? Last year, I said the defensive backfield because Eavan Gibbons and I have a similar build. Unfortunately, he's out-bulked me in the gym the past year, and I can no longer make that claim in good faith. I'll go with cornerback this year. I could definitely put the clamps on John Meagher and it would be fitting for Evan "Seis" Warren to play alongside Willie "Cinceaux" Collins. If you could choose any opponent for Navy to play that is currently not on the schedule, who would you choose and why? I would choose Towson. One of my closest friends from back home, Nathan Kent, is a quarterback there and it would be pretty surreal to face him in college after playing alongside him for most of my childhood. Favorite class at the Naval Academy and why? My favorite class this semester was Legislative Process with Dr. Stacy from the Political Science Department. His classes are lively and he is a brilliant mind who I seek to emulate. We even got to take a trip to Congress. Hardest class at the Naval Academy and why? Still has to be my plebe calculus classes. Probably the only courses here I haven't enjoyed. Favorite teacher at the Naval Academy and why? I usually don't name one because I've only had phenomenal instructors, but I've got to shout out Cmdr. Gamble. He puts up with myself and Will Harbor every day, is an electrical engineering wizard and despite prior service in the Army is an ardent supporter of Navy football. He's got incredible stories and knowledge on how to conquer life. Favorite form of social media and why? I don't use much social media anymore, but I do enjoy signing into Twitter from time to time. Favorite person to follow on social media and why? Stephen Glenn. If his high school commitment video doesn't get you fired up, I don't know what will. If you could have dinner with any 4 people at the Naval Academy who would you choose?: Mr. Rob Dorsky from the Tailor Shop, Mr. Matthew Yates from Security, Mr. Dan Monteith from Disbursing and Mr. Joe Piette. Four humble servants of midshipmen at the Naval Academy whose stories I'd love to hear. Favorite sport to follow at the Naval Academy outside of football and why? Basketball. They're fun to watch, always competitive and some of the best weeknights are when the football team shows up in droves to support them in Alumni Hall. If you didn't play football at Navy, what sport would you play and why? I would play tennis. My brother is a collegiate player and has really gotten me into it. Navy Football Video captain Griff Waren and I can often be found on the 8th wing tennis courts when our schedules allow. What song is playing on your headphones in the locker room right before taking the field? "Getting Started" by Sam Fender. What is your dream vacation? Going to Ireland to play some football, probably. How many teams should make the FBS Playoffs? I don't feel strongly about it, but there should be a service academy at-large bid. I think some reparations are in order after the death of the cut block. What is the best thing about being in the American Athletic Conference? Playing Power-6 football. Favorite Coach Newberry Saying: (On 4th Down) "Kick it." How would you describe Coach Chesnut's Offense: Confusing. How would you describe Coach Volker's Defense: Also confusing. Can you tell I spend most of my time on a separate field? One word to describe a Navy Football player: Resilient. Who will be the surprise player on offense in 2023? Eli Heidenreich Who will be the surprise player on defense in 2023? Chreign LaFond Who is the toughest player on the Navy football team? Riley Reithman. I've never seen him wear long sleeves, not once. What player epitomizes Navy Football? Eavan Gibbons. You can count on Eavan to always "choose the right" and go the extra mile. He's one of the hardest workers at USNA and his energy is infectious. He is the essence of what this program is about. Who will be the Most Valuable Player on offense in 2023?: Daniel Jones. Who will be the Most Valuable Player on defense in 2023? Jacob Busic. Us Westminster Owl alumni are a force to be reckoned with. What are you most looking forward to in 2023? Seeing Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium packed full of Navy Football fans.
