Husker Camp Countdown: No. 16 Nick Henrich

We are counting down the top 50 Nebraska football players you need to know heading into the season.
No. 16 Nick Henrich
6-3, 225 • Junior • Linebacker
Coming off a 2021 season where he recorded just under 100 tackles and earned a spot as a team captain, Henrich appeared destined for another strong campaign in the heart of Nebraska's defense. Henrich still made a big contribution when he saw the field — but injuries robbed him of a consistent sophomore season and caused him to miss spring camp.
First, it was a broken hand in NU's season opener that meant two weeks on the sidelines for Henrich. He soon returned with a cast on his hand, playing through the pain that came with it. But Henrich's return to the field lasted just four games before he suffered a season-ending knee injury against Purdue.
It's a worrying trend for the fifth-year junior, especially considering his 2019 campaign was also limited by a shoulder injury. When Henrich has been on the field, his impact has been impossible to ignore. The veteran linebacker excels as a run-stopper, often flying around the middle of the field to make plays. While he won't fit as a "Jack" in Nebraska's new defense, Henrich could work as either a "Mike" or "Will" in a role that suits his strengths.
Having recently been cleared to fully participate in fall camp, Henrich will look to put the injuries behind him and reclaim his spot in the heart of Nebraska's defense.
