MLIVE’S TOP 50 2023 FOOTBALL RECRUITS Saline's CJ Carr throws a ball under pressure during a high school football match between Saline and Huron on October 28, 2022. 1. CJ Carr, QB, Saline Commitment: Notre Dame Carr has been at the top of his class for a long time now. The grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, many people have been watching Carr’s career with great interest. The Notre Dame commit has been great in the spotlight too, finishing last season 222-of-326 passing for 2,685 yards with 26 TD passes to just five interceptions. He also rushed for 227 yards and seven touchdowns on the way to all-conference honors. He had over two dozen offers from across the country before committing to Michigan, including Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. Nick Marsh, WR, River Rouge Commitment: Michigan State After initially committing and decommitting from Michigan State, Spartans fans could take a sigh of relief when Marsh committed to MSU once again on July 7. Marsh is the top-rated receiver in Michigan and carries four-star status. His 6-foot-3 range makes him a menace at the high school level while his overall athleticism will help him find continued success at the next level. In 10 games last season, Marsh finished with 57 catches for 723 yards and six touchdowns this season while also adding a rushing touchdown. Belleville's Jeremiah Beasley (1) runs with the ball during the MHSAA Division 1 football game between Belleville and Caledonia at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022. Belleville won with a final score of 35-17. 4. Jeremiah Beasley, LB/RB, Belleville Commitment: Michigan Beasley is a linebacker who packs a punch for Belleville and is considered one of the top linebackers in the country. He builds speed quickly and that is evident when he carries the ball as a running back for Belleville as well. Last year, he finished with 1,223 rushing yards on 109 carries (11.22 YPC) and 24 touchdowns. Southfield A&T quarterback Isaiah Marshall poses for a photo after throwing for six touchdown passes and rushing for two more in a 56-54 overtime win over Detroit Cass Tech. The game started on Aug. 25, 2022 and ended on Aug. 27, 2022. 5. Isaiah Marshall, QB, Southfield A&T Commitment: Kansas One of the most electric players in Michigan at the high school level, Marshall is the highest-rated quarterback in Michigan because of his dominant dual-threat abilities. Last season, Marshall finished with 3,119 total yards and 42 total touchdowns. Leading a high-scoring offense, Marshall was 138-for-221 passing (62 percent) for 2,331 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also did plenty of damage with his legs, piling on 888 yards and 17 touchdowns on 84 carries, averaging 10.5 yards per carry. 6. Jacob Oden, S, Harper Woods Commitment: Michigan Oden has good speed that makes him a great two-way player at the high school level. Expected to continue to do so this season, Oden had 39 tackles (11 for loss) with seven pass breakups last year. Offensively, Oden also played receiver and had 31 receptions for 529 yards and six touchdowns. 7. Brandon Davis-Swain, DL, West Bloomfield Commitment: Colorado Originally committed to Notre Dame, he decommitted in the winter and recently announced his commitment to Colorado back in June. Still, he has since taken official visits to Purdue and Michigan since his latest commitment. Davis-Swain is 6-4, 240 while holding a four-star rating. As a junior, he had 62 total tackles, including 15 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks. 8. Gabe Winowich, ATH, Detroit Country Day Commitment: Rutgers Winowich has been an excellent two-way player for Country Day and, despite playing for a smaller school, finds himself ranked among the best in the state. The Rutgers commit rushed for 887 yards (9.3 YPC) and 12 touchdowns as a junior. He’s also an accomplished linebacker for Country Day. 9. Jamir Benjamin, DB, West Bloomfield Commitment: Northwestern Benjamin had a breakout season for the Lakers last fall, finishing with 40 tackles and five interceptions in 10 games. Originally committed to Stanford, he decommitted in April and then committed to Northwestern in June. Although he is listed as a three-star prospect by recruiting outlets, he’s gotten the attention of a four-star kid as he collected nearly 30 offers along the way. 10. Andrew Dennis, OL, Mt. Pleasant Commitment: Michigan State At 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, Michigan State reeled in the state’s top offensive lineman prospect when Dennis committed back in April.
