Alabama reportedly promotes Lupoi to DC
Alabama head coach Nick Saban apparently has decided to promote from within to fill a key coaching vacancy. Al.com reported that co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi is expected to be promoted to defensive coordinator and play-caller. Lupoi would replace Jeremy Pruitt, who left Alabama to become Tennessee's head coach. According to the report, Lupoi, 36, has already told some Alabama recruits that he will be the defensive coordinator and play-caller next season. Lupoi has no previous experience at a play-caller. Lupoi came to Alabama in 2014 and served as a defensive analyst, and he has been the Crimson Tide's outside linebackers coach since 2015. He was given the title of co-defensive coordinator under Pruitt in 2016. Alabama hired Texas-San Antonio defensive coordinator Pete Golding as an assistant coach in December. He is expected to serve as co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.
