Arizona State wide receiver John Humphrey, who was expected to be a starter in 2018, will miss the season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Wide receiver John Humphrey had a spectacular debut for Arizona State in 2017, but things have gone downhill from there. He missed four games last season because a knee injury, and new coach Herm Edwards confirmed that Humphrey will miss the 2018 season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon on Thursday. Humphrey was expected to be a starter for the Sun Devils next season. In the spring of 2016, Humphrey transferred from Oklahoma to Arizona State. After sitting out the 2016 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, he caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in Arizona State season-opening win over New Mexico State. He was unable to duplicate that performance, however, and finished the season with 13 catches for 177 yards and the one touchdown. Humphrey was scheduled to be a redshirt junior in 2018.
