Bentley back as South Carolina's starting quarterback

South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley (19) was injured during the Sept. 29 game against Kentucky.
Quarterback Michael Scarnecchia made quite an impression in his first career start last week, when he led South Carolina to a 37-35 victory over Missouri. However, it wasn't enough to enable him to retain the starting job. South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said on Tuesday that Jake Bentley, who missed last week's game with a sprained knee, will start against Texas A&M this week, if he is healthy enough. The assumption is that Bentley will be healthy enough since he was a full participant in Tuesday's practice. "But I told Jake and Mike, both of them need to be ready to go play," Muschamp said, per Rivals.com. "We've got two guys we can go win with and that's good to have." Some of the Gamecocks' fans made it known they wanted Scarnecchia, a fifth-year senior, to remain the starter after he completed 20 of 35 passes for 249 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions against Missouri despite heavy rainfall. That improved South Carolina's record to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference. Bentley has completed 64 percent of his passes for 928 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He threw three interceptions in the 24-10 loss to Kentucky the previous week before leaving with the injury.
