CFB Notebook: 3 ex-Michigan State players take plea deal

Former Michigan State football players Josh King, Demetric Vance and Donnie Corley pleaded guilty on Wednesday to felony charges of seduction, accepting a plea deal in Lansing, Mich., that could keep them out of prison. King pleaded guilty in an Ingham County courtroom to an additional felony of surveilling an unclothed person, which does not require the guilty party to register as a sex offender. Other charges against the former football players were dropped as part of the plea agreement, and prosecutors agreed to recommend that they spend no time in jail. Judge Rosemarie Aquilina can sentence the former Spartans to up to five years in prison, but if she decides to give them any time behind bars when she sentences them in June, the three will have the option to withdraw their guilty pleas. Prosecutors agreed to allow the three to plead under the Holmes Youthful Training Act, which means the offenses will not stay on their permanent records if they complete a probationary period with no further problems. --The attorney for quarterback Shea Patterson of Michigan, a transfer from Mississippi, said his client's request to play in 2018 took a big step forward in recent days because a move by the NCAA. Attorney Thomas Mars added that there is no timetable for the final decision. The NCAA asked for additional information from Michigan and Patterson late last week after reviewing the school's request to allow him to forgo the usual one-year waiting period after his transfer. Patterson transferred from Ole Miss this winter after learning that NCAA sanctions against the Rebels would be more severe than previously expected. He and several of his former Ole Miss teammates have asked the NCAA to allow them to play right away because they say they were misled by their former coaches. --Florida State sophomore defensive tackle Marvin Wilson sustained a torn MCL and will miss the remainder of spring practice, coach Willie Taggart announced. Taggart did not divulge how Wilson hurt his knee or when the injury occurred. Wilson, who is expected to contend for a starting position in the fall, recorded seven tackles in 12 games last season. --Sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who rallied Alabama to victory in the national championship game against Georgia last season, could play in Saturday's spring scrimmage. Tagovailoa has been sidelined because of a broken bone on his left hand, but head coach Nick Saban did not rule him out for Saturday, the Birmingham News reported. Tagovailoa sustained the injury during the initial spring practice and underwent surgery. He was back at practice for non-contact drills two days later.
