Louisville fired coach Bobby Petrino on Sunday.
Louisville fired coach Bobby Petrino with the team in the midst of a seven-game losing skid, the school announced Sunday morning. Petrino was dismissed in the middle of his fifth season of his second stint with the Cardinals after the team endured blowout losses to Clemson and Syracuse. The 54-23 setback to the Orange was the team's fifth consecutive loss by double digits. Louisville (2-8) recorded its lone victories against FCS Indiana State and Western Kentucky and is winless (0-7) in the ACC. The Cardinals have been outscored 291-125 over their last five contests. The 57-year-old Petrino is owed a $14.1 million buyout by the university that will be paid out over the next few years, ESPN reported, citing a source. --Utah running back Zack Moss sustained a potentially season-ending knee injury while climbing into bed, according to coach Kyle Whittingham. Whittingham labeled the injury as "very strange" while talking with reporters after the Utes' 32-25 victory versus Oregon on Saturday. "It locked up on him, his leg, and it could have been from a week ago, a month ago, a year ago," Whittingham told reporters. "There's just no way to tell. And so, it's unfortunate. It looks like he's going to need surgery. That's not 100 percent sure right now. I guess there's going to be some second opinions and so forth." It is not immediately known if Moss -- a junior -- will return to action or if his collegiate career is over. He is expected to be an early-entry candidate for the 2019 NFL Draft.
