CFB notebook: Notre Dame QB Book reportedly will not play Saturday

Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book will not play in Saturday's game against Florida State because of a rib injury, multiple media outlets reported Thursday. According to IrishSportsDaily.com, Book suffered multiple injuries to his midsection in Saturday's game at Northwestern, and those injuries will prevent him from playing on Saturday. He finished the game and has played a major role in Notre Dame's 9-0 record that has elevated the Irish to the No. 3 spot in this week's College Football Playoff rankings. Presumably Brandon Wimbush, who was Notre Dame's starting quarterback when the season began, will start against the Seminoles, who are 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Book took over as the starting quarterback against Wake Forest on Sept. 22. He replaced Wimbush, who started the first three games. ESPN.com reported that Book is expected to be available for Notre Dame's game against No. 13 Syracuse on Nov. 17. --Florida coach Dan Mullen was considering making Kyle Trask his starting quarterback this week, but that choice apparently has been taken away from him, because Trask's father said on Facebook that his son is out for the season. Trask reportedly suffered a non-contact injury to his lower leg, and his father posted on Facebook that his son suffered a fractured foot during practice on Wednesday. Here is Mike Trask's Facebook post: "Gator Nation, I am sad to say that Kyle was injured today in practice while doing a trick play where he hands off to the RB and then goes out for a pass. The throw to Kyle was low and when he planted his foot to catch the pass he felt a pop. Unfortunately he fractured his foot and will be out for the season. Just a freak injury. The good news is that it will be minor surgery and he will be 100% for spring ball in 2019. Thank you for all the well wishes and support for Kyle, we appreciate you very much! Continue to pray for Kyle's recovery." Trask replaced Feleipe Franks in last Saturday's loss to Missouri, and Trask provided some spark to the offense. Early in the week, Mullen acknowledged he was considering making Trask the starter. Now it appears Franks will remain the starter for this weekend's game against South Carolina, which is tied with Florida for third place in the SEC East. --Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst announced that starting nose tackle Olive Sagapolu will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery on his right arm. Sagapolu was injured in Wisconsin's loss to Northwestern two weeks ago and he missed Saturday's home game against Rutgers. He finished the season with 23 tackles, including 4 1/2 tackles for loss and two sacks, which tied him for second on the team. He also had an interception. Wisconsin was ranked No. 4 in the preseason Associated Press poll but the Badgers are now 6-3 and no longer among the top 25. They are 4-2 in the Big Ten, leaving them one game behind Northwestern in the Big Ten West standings. --Miami has lost three games in a row, and the Hurricanes are changing quarterbacks again. Miami coach Mark Richt said that redshirt freshman N'Kosi Perry will be the Hurricanes' starting quarterback on Saturday against Georgia Tech. It will be the fourth career start for Perry and his first since the Virginia game Oct. 13. He also started the two games before the loss to the Cavaliers. Perry replaces fifth-year senior Malik Rosier, who started the first four games of the season and the two most recent games before being benched for the second time this season.
