CFB notebook: OT Anderson transfers from Rice to Texas
Rice offensive lineman Calvin Anderson (66) earned Conference USA honorable mention honors the past two seasons.
Rice offensive tackle Calvin Anderson is heading across state to play for Texas as a graduate transfer.
Anderson announced Saturday that he would continue his career playing for the Longhorns, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Anderson had announced his plans to transfer in January and visited some of the elite programs in the country, including reigning national champion Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma and Michigan.
Texas finished 7-6 in 2017 in its first season under coach Tom Herman, who spent the previous two seasons coaching at Houston.
Anderson figures to be in the mix for a starting job with the Longhorns, who have a need at the position after All-American Connor Williams left for the NFL Draft.
--Rice defensive tackle Preston Gordon is headed to Texas Tech as a graduate transfer.
Gordon, a three-year starter for the Owls, announced his decision to transfer to the Big 12 Conference school via social media.
"After a great talk with Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury, Coach (David) Gibbs and Coach (Terrance) Jamison I have decided to commit to Texas Tech as a graduate transfer," Gordon wrote on his Twitter account. "I want to say thank you to all my family and friends for their support."
Texas Tech, which went 6-7 under head coach Kliff Kingsbury in 2017, capping the season with a loss in the Birmingham Bowl. The Red Raiders will return 10 starters on defense.
--A former assistant under Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher filed a federal lawsuit seeking unpaid wages from work performed during last season's Independence Bowl.
Mike Warren, who was quality control coach, also is suing the school for overtime hours he worked during the past three years, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
The lawsuit accuses the university of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Florida Minimum Wage Act. The lawsuit calls the violation "willful, intentional and systemic."
After Fisher resigned to take the head coaching job at Texas A&M, Warren was one of three quality control coaches promoted for the Seminoles' bowl game against Southern Miss.
--Former Detroit Lions offensive line coach Ron Prince is joining Jim Harbaugh's coaching staff at Michigan, according to reports.
Prince was part of head coach Jim Caldwell's staff in Detroit that was let go after the 2017 season. Prince will be an offensive analyst for the Wolverines, first reported by 247 Sports and later by MLive.com.
Prince joined the Lions in 2014 as tight ends coach before taking over the offensive line. He also has NFL coaching experience with the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars.
He last coached at the collegiate level in 2013 as Rutgers' offensive coordinator. He also had stints at Alabama A&M, South Carolina State, James Madison, Cornell, Virginia, and Kansas State.
