Appalachian State Mountaineers head coach Scott Satterfield reportedly is heading to Louisville.
Appalachian State Mountaineers head coach Scott Satterfield reportedly is heading to Louisville.
Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield reportedly will be named the new head coach at Louisville. Louisville has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday afternoon, and the Louisville Courier-Journal reported Monday that Satterfield is the choice to replace Bobby Petrino, who was fired last month. The school has not confirmed the hire. Lorenzo Ward, associate head coach and secondary coach, served as the Cardinals' interim head coach for the final two games, and Louisville finished the season with a 2-10 record, including 0-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Louisville finished the season on a nine-game losing streak, yielding more than 50 points in each of its last five games. The 45-year-old Satterfield has been the head coach at Appalachian State for the past six seasons. Satterfield went 11-13 in his first two seasons while the school was transitioning its football program from FCS to FBS. But the Mountaineers are 40-11 overall since 2015, including a 29-4 mark in Sun Belt play with three straight conference championships. --East Carolina has hired Mike Houston as its next football coach, the school announced. Houston led James Madison to a 37-6 mark and a 2016 national title in the Football Championship Subdivision by ending North Dakota State's dominance with a win in Fargo, N.D. North Dakota State, however, got its revenge by besting James Madison in the title game the following year. The 47-year-old North Carolina native guided James Madison to a 34-17 romp at East Carolina in the 2017 season opener. --Texas Southern named Clarence McKinney as its new head coach, the school announced. McKinney served as Arizona's associate head coach and running backs coach. He replaces Michael Haywood, who went 2-9 this season and 8-25 during the last three years as coach of the SWAC program. McKinney spent the last 10 years as an assistant to Kevin Sumlin at Houston, Texas A&M and Arizona.
