Chad Johnson: A.J. Green is Bengals' best WR
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green (18) runs against Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard (25) during the first half at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday.
Chad Johnson applauded A.J. Green after the latter passed him in the Cincinnati Bengals' record book.
Green had six receptions for 112 yards during the Bengals' 27-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Reaching triple digits in passing yards is nothing new for Green, who has done so on 32 occasions during his career -- one more than Johnson.
NFL Research announced Green's accomplishment over Twitter. Johnson later showed his appreciation for Green by responding to the tweet with a "goat" emoji, thus labeling him as the "greatest of all time" on the franchise.
Green's last catch on Sunday was a 15-yard pass over the middle that put the Bengals inside the Miami 10 on the go-ahead touchdown drive.
"It was just another option route," Green said. "It's hard to double me when I'm in the slot."
Green has recorded 26 receptions for 409 yards and five touchdowns in five games this season.
A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Green has 582 receptions for 8,622 yards and 62 touchdowns in 107 contests since the Bengals selected him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Johnson spent 10 seasons in Cincinnati (2001-10), with six Pro Bowl selections coming during that time. The flamboyant receiver, who changed his named to Ochocinco and also became known for his outrageous stunts and television persona, left Cincinnati with 751 receptions for 10,783 yards and 66 touchdowns.
Head coach Marvin Lewis commented on the play of linebacker Vontaze Burfict in his first game this season after being suspended for the first four games.
"I think he understands that it was good that we could get the lead there at the end and get him out, and then get the guys who have been doing it (the first four games) in there," Lewis said Monday. "As we've said, working on the football conditioning part, the only way to do that is to play football. This is his first outing (of the season), and hopefully he continues to take steps forward that way. There's some new things he wasn't quite exact on, and we have to be better all the time. I feel good about the rest of the group and with their contribution. To get Jordan Evans back in there at the end of the game, when they were throwing the football like that, was good."
Lewis admitted Burfict was winded at the end of the game.
"Yeah he was. He was winded on the interception return, and it was a different football game at that point -- or I guess it was second one, the fumble return," Lewis said.
The head coach was not completely satisfied with his team's performance despite the win.
"As I said yesterday after the game and now after watching the tape, we have a lot of corrections to make," Lewis said. "We didn't execute well on offense for most of the game and we weren't as good on third down. Although we had some nice runs, we're still a tick off in the run game. We also had execution issues on special teams that we have to shore up."
--RB Joe Mixon had a season-high 22 rushing attempts while rushing for 93 yards on Sunday. He has gained more than 80 yards on the ground in each of the three games he has played. Mixon also had three catches for 22 yards on Sunday.
--WR A.J. Green had more than 100 receiving yards for the first time this season on Sunday. He had six catches for 112 yards but did not have a touchdown. His previous season high was 92 receiving yards in the opener against the Colts.
--DE Michael Johnson scored his first career touchdown on Sunday when he intercepted a deflected pass and ran in for the score.
--DE Sam Hubbard scored his first touchdown of his rookie season by picking up a fumble and running it to the end zone.
