Four-star tight end Ryner Swanson chooses BYU over Oregon, Texas and others

By Kevin Reynolds BYU was Ryner Swanson’s final official visit this week, and the Cougars did enough to seal the deal. The four-star tight end out of Laguna Beach, Calif., committed to BYU over Texas, Oregon, Texas A&M and Utah on Thursday. He represents one the bigger recruiting victories for the program since moving to the Big 12. Swanson is rated the No. 23 tight end in the country, according to 247Sports. He is also a top 35 recruit in the state of California, per 247Sports. Swanson’s size and pass-catching ability made him highly recruited. Last year, he recorded 12 touchdowns for over 950 yards of offense. He is also 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, the prototypical size for a Power Five tight end. Swanson’s took a series of official visits in the last few weeks. He was in Austin earlier in June and met with the Texas coaching staff. He then went to Oregon last week. BYU was his last official visit before his commitment. BYU now has two highly recruited tight ends in back-to-back classes. Jackson Bowers, another four-star recruit out of Arizona, is set to join the team this summer. Bowers picked BYU over Alabama, Washington and Arizona.
