WVU football: Mountaineers pick up ’24 DL commitment

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia is now up to 20 commitments in the 2024 class.
The Mountaineers reached that number when defensive lineman Nate Gabriel from Auburndale High in Florida announced his commitment Thursday evening with a video and graphic posted to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, along with two mountain emojis.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound tackle is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports, Rivals and On3.
According to statistics posted to his team’s MaxPreps account, he had 58 tackles in 10 games last year, including 26 for loss and seven sacks. He recovered two fumbles. Gabriel was also a wrestling state champion during the past season.
His other offers included East Carolina, USF, Arkansas State, Central Michigan, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, FIU, Florida A&M, FAU, Illinois, Kansas State, Liberty, Marshall, New Hampshire, Temple, Tennessee Tech, Troy, Tulane, UCF, UT Martin and Western Michigan, according to the recruiting services.
Gabriel posted a top five of WVU, Kansas State, USF, East Carolina and Illinois on June 1. He announced he had received an offer from WVU on April 16.
He’s the fifth commitment the Mountaineers have received on the defensive line from the Class of 2024 so far, joining edge Obinna Onwuka, edge Makai Byerson, defensive lineman Richard James Jr. and edge Elijah Kinsler.
