Dolphins' McCain becomes highest-paid nickelback

The Miami Dolphins made Bobby McCain the NFL's highest-paid nickelback after signing him to a four-year, $27 million contract extension. The deal includes $13 million guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. The Dolphins were able to sign McCain due in part to picking up approximately $17 million in salary cap space, the result of former defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh's contract coming off the team's financial ledger on Friday. McCain recorded a career high in tackles (48), interceptions (two) and passes defensed (seven) in 16 games last season. Despite being just 24 years old, McCain will be in a position of leadership in the young Dolphins' secondary. "If your role is to sit back and wait, which mine in the first year and second year has been, you just have to wait," the 5-foot-11, 192-pound McCain said. "Now that we have young guys coming up behind you, they know the right way to do things. That's what we try to depend on here, just the right way of doing things. "Me being in my fourth year, I was that guy three years ago, asking questions and wanting to know things. We've got guys like 'Fitzy' (Minkah Fitzpatrick), Cornell (Armstrong), 'J.D.' (Jalen Davis) and those young guys are all coming up and they want to know. They want to learn. That's good to know and that's good to have." McCain has collected 122 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble in 48 career contests since being selected by Miami in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
