Wisconsin football adds transfer cornerback from Air Force
The University of Wisconsin football team continued to bolster its cornerback group with the addition of transfer Michael Mack II.
Mack was listed on the team's training camp roster after transferring to join the Badgers following two seasons playing for the Air Force Academy. Mack started in parts of two years for the Falcons, including eight in 2021 and 10 last fall, and PFF credits him with nearly 800 college snaps. He tallied 42 tackles, 2½ for loss, an interception, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery last season. A vast majority of his experience is as an outside corner. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at UW.
At 6 foot 1 and 180 pounds, Mack fits the physical profile that new coach Luke Fickell and defensive coordinator Mike Tressel prefer. Mack also played 125 snaps on special teams at Air Force, per PFF.
The Badgers already turned to the portal once this summer to add depth to their cornerback group. Nyzier Fourqurean, a Division II All-American at Grand Valley State, joined the roster in May. UW had three cornerbacks leave via the portal in the week after spring practices ended.
"When you look at our room, we got older guys and we got true young guys there," position coach Paul Haynes said in April. "There’s none in the middle. So that's where you always kind of got to fill the gap of just guys so you're not going from overly experienced to no experience. You got to have some in the middle."
