Houston senior has appeared in 34 games across three seasons with program

HOUSTON – University of Houston senior Gavin Gately has been named to the Patrick Mannelly Award watch list, honoring the nation's top long snapper, announced Monday.
Gately is among 25 Division I student-athletes on the watch list and one of two long snappers competing for a Texas program (TCU's Brent Matiscik). A full list of Houston Football preseason honors can be found here.
The award, created in 2019, benefits Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit organization located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Ten semi-finalists will be announced on Nov. 13. Those names will be narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 27 with the winner selected at a ceremony in Lake Bluff on Dec. 9.
The Milwaukie, Ore., native appeared in all 13 games for the Cougars a season ago, with 77 snaps on field goal and 25 snaps at long snapper. The Cougars ranked third in The American in net punting (40.5). Houston did not allow a field goal block in Gately's 77 snaps.
