New York Jets wide receiver Devin Smith (19) has been slowed by injuries since he was drafted in 2015.
The New York Jets announced two moves on their website on Monday. They released wide receiver Devin Smith, and they signed safety Brandon Bryant. Smith has been ravaged by injury since being selected by the Jets with a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 26-year-old fractured his ribs on the second day of training camp in his rookie season and sustained a torn ACL later in the year. He also missed all of last season after he suffered the same injury to his knee in April. Smith, who did not participate in spring practices thus far this year, collected 10 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown in 14 career games. The Jets' wide receiver corps consists of Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Jermaine Kearse, Terrelle Pryor, Chad Hansen, ArDarius Stewart, Andre Roberts, Charone Peake, Charles Johnson and Lucky Whitehead. Bryant was not selected during last Wednesday's supplemental draft, but has joined the Jets. Bryant played 37 games for Mississippi State before applying for the supplemental draft because he was declared academically ineligible for 2018. He had 157 tackles and five interceptions with the Bulldogs. Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye are set to start at safety for the Jets with J.J. Wilcox, Doug Middleton, Terrance Brooks and Rontez Miles also on the roster at safety.
