NFL notebook: Buccaneers acquire DE Pierre-Paul from Giants
Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (90) had eight sacks for the Giants last season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will acquire defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and a 2018 fourth-round pick from the New York Giants in exchange for a third- and fourth-round selection in the same draft, the teams announced on Thursday.
The trade is conditional on Pierre-Paul passing a physical, the Buccaneers announced.
Pierre-Paul recorded 68 tackles, eight sacks and two forced fumbles for the Giants last season. He played in all 16 games despite nursing hand, shoulder and knee injuries.
The 29-year-old Pierre-Paul is one season removed from signing a four-year contract worth $62 million. The trade clears $2.5 million off the salary cap this season and leaves $15 million in dead money on New York's cap, per Spotrac.
Pierre-Paul lost his right index finger and badly damaged the rest of his right hand in a Fourth of July fireworks accident in 2015. He was limited to eight games that season and finished with one sack and 26 tackles.
--Free-agent running back Frank Gore agreed to a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, multiple media outlets reported.
The 34-year-old Gore was born in Miami and played for the University of Miami. Now he plans to complete his career in Miami.
He rushed for 961 yards last season for the Indianapolis Colts.
--Quarterback Brock Osweiler paid a visit to the Dolphins, per reports.
Osweiler has a history with Dolphins head coach Adam Gase as the two were together for three seasons in Denver.
--Defensive end William Hayes signed a one-year contract to remain with the Dolphins, the team announced.
Hayes recorded 19 tackles and one sack in 10 games after he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams on March 10, 2017. He was placed on injured reserve with an ailing back on Nov. 28.
--The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a one-year contract with wide receiver Mike Wallace, the team announced. NFL Network reported the deal is worth $4 million.
The 31-year-old Wallace has played for four teams in his nine-year career. He had 52 receptions for 748 yards and four touchdowns last season with Baltimore and went over 1,000 yards for the third time in his career in 2016, hauling in 72 catches for 1,017 yards.
--Cornerback Tramon Williams, who played his first eight seasons in Green Bay, agreed to a two-year contract with the Packers, the NFL Network reported.
The 35-year-old spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals, starting nine of 13 games.
--Running back Mike Davis and defensive end Marcus Smith both agreed to one-year deals to return to the Seattle Seahawks, according to published reports Thursday.
Davis' return was reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, and Josina Anderson of ESPN reported Smith agreed to a deal worth up to $2.7 million.
The 25-year-old Davis recorded career highs in carries (68) and yards (240) in six games last season.
--The Dallas Cowboys agreed to terms with wide receiver Deonte Thompson, the team announced.
ESPN and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Thompson's deal was for one year and worth $2.5 million.
To help get the cap room needed to sign Thompson, the Cowboys restructured the contract of center Travis Frederick.
The Cowboys freed up $7 million in cap space by restructuring Frederick's deal. Frederick, a Pro Bowl selection each of the past four seasons, was scheduled to earn $10 million in base salary next season but the Cowboys manipulated how the money will be paid, with nearly all of that money now being paid as a signing bonus.
--The Arizona Cardinals re-signed offensive lineman Daniel Munyer to a one-year contract, the team announced.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the Cardinals for Munyer, who played in one game last season before being placed on injured reserve on Nov. 6 with an ailing toe.
--Free-agent linebacker Marquis Flowers is returning to the New England Patriots.
Flowers signed a one-year contract worth a maximum of $2.55 million with the Patriots, Sean Stellato of the SES agency told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Flowers recorded 32 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 16 games during his first season with the Patriots.
--The Patriots will keep offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle, who agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the team, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
--The Oakland Raiders signed offensive tackle Breno Giacomini and re-signed quarterback EJ Manuel, the club announced.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed for Giacomini, who started all 16 games at right tackle last season for the Houston Texans.
Manuel served as the backup to quarterback Derek Carr last season and appeared in two games with one start.
--Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst has received medical clearance to resume playing football, ESPN reported.
Hurst, considered one of the top prospects for the NFL Draft, faced an uncertain future when irregularities in his heart were detected at the NFL Combine and he was sent home.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Hurst received clearance after meeting with cardiologists at the University of Michigan and Harvard, giving him the green light to resume his career.
--The Chicago Bears re-signed linebacker John Timu to a one-year contract, the team announced.
Financial terms were not disclosed for Timu, who recorded 16 tackles and a pass deflection in 11 games last season.
--Defensive end Derrick Shelby will sign with the Atlanta Falcons after being released by that team earlier this month, according to a post from his agent, David Canter of DEC Management.
--Running back Damien Williams has signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, his agent announced.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport later reported that it was a one-year contract for $1.5 million.
--The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed nose tackle Daniel McCullers to a one-year contract, his agent announced.
The 6-foot-7, 352-pound McCullers appeared in five games last season, registering only one tackle. He had 17 tackles and a sack in 16 games (one start) in 2016.
--The New York Giants released wide receiver/return specialist Dwayne Harris, the team announced.
Harris did not have a reception last season with New York, appearing in five games before suffering a fractured foot.
