NFL notebook: Rams lose WR Kupp for the season

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL during the team's 36-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks, coach Sean McVay confirmed Monday. McVay said that he hoped Kupp will undergo surgery this week. Kupp was running a route downfield during the fourth quarter on Sunday when he attempted to cut off his left leg and immediately went down to the ground, clutching his leg near his knee. Kupp recorded 40 receptions for 566 yards and six touchdowns in eight games this season. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Kupp's best performance came in Week 4, when he had a career-high nine catches for 162 yards and two scores versus the Minnesota Vikings. --The Cincinnati Bengals fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin one day after the team surrendered 51 points in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. Austin, 53, was in his first season as the defensive coordinator of the Bengals (5-4) after serving in the same capacity for the previous four years with the Detroit Lions. Cincinnati (5-4) became the first team in the Super Bowl era to surrender 500 yards in three consecutive games on Sunday. New Orleans (8-1) finished with 509 yards en route to a 51-14 victory. The Bengals yielded the second-most points in a game in club history. In the first half alone, the Saints rolled up 311 yards and had 21 first downs on 40 plays. The Bengals have fired a coordinator during the season for the second straight year. The team dismissed offensive coordinator Ken Zampese just two games into the 2017 campaign, replacing him with quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor. Linebackers coach Jim Haslett, who spent 1996-2004 as either a head coach and defensive coordinator, could be a potential candidate to replace him. --The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they have waived kicker Chandler Catanzaro. Catanzaro missed a pair of field goals in Tampa Bay's 16-3 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday. The Bucs signed Catanzano to a three-year contract this offseason, but he did not make it through the first year of the deal. The Buccaneers piled up 501 yards on Sunday and missed kicks as well as four turnovers were the main reasons the Bucs scored just three points. Catanzaro is 11 of 15 on field goals and 23 of 27 on extra points overall this season. --Dirk Koetter also announced that Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to be the Buccaneers' starting quarterback. Fitzpatrick was 29 of 41 for 406 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss to Washington. --The New Orleans Saints signed six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall to a contract, the team announced. Marshall effectively is replacing three-time Pro Bowl wideout Dez Bryant, who signed with the club on Tuesday before sustaining a torn Achilles on the final play in practice three days later. The 34-year-old Marshall, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 30, worked out for the Saints with Bryant and Kamar Aiken last week. The 6-foot-5, 232-pound Marshall has 970 career receptions for 12,351 yards and 83 touchdown catches. --Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL in a game against the Dallas Cowboys, coach Doug Pederson said. Darby injured his right knee on a non-contact play during the third quarter of Sunday night's 27-20 loss to the Cowboys. --Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Josh Allen will remain the Bills' starting quarterback when he is healthy. Matt Barkley, with just two weeks of practice under his belt, gave the Bills their best production at quarterback all season Sunday. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 232 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers in a 41-10 victory over the New York Jets. --Los Angeles Chargers starting linebacker Denzel Perryman reportedly will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Perryman left Sunday's victory over the Oakland Raiders early in the first quarter, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Monday that Perryman suffered damage to his lateral collateral ligament (LCL). Rapoport also reported that Perryman needs surgery to repair an injured hamstring, and the two injuries will prevent Perryman from returning this season. His recovery time is estimated to be 2-3 months. The 25-year-old Perryman was a key component of the Chargers' defense. He has started all nine games and played in nearly 65 percent of the team's defensive snaps during the 2018 season. He has recorded 51 tackles, which is tied for second most on the team, and also has an interception. --The Carolina Panthers announced that they have waived veteran running back C.J. Anderson. The Panthers also announced they signed running back Travaris Cadet to a one-year contract. Anderson played in all nine games for the Panthers this season, and had one start. He totaled 104 rushing yards on 24 carries and had one reception for 24 yards and touchdowns.
