PFWA All-NFL: Cowboys, 49ers rule the roster
A total of 10 repeat selections and 10 first-time selections are part of the 2023 All-NFL team, chosen in voting conducted by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA).
The Dallas Cowboys placed a league-high five players on the All-NFL team, while the San Francisco 49ers had four players honored.
Repeat selections from the PFWA's 2022 All-NFL squad were New York Jets cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, Cowboys guard Zack Martin, Green Bay Packers kick returner Keisean Nixon, Cowboys outside linebacker Micah Parsons, 49ers middle linebacker Fred Warner and 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams.
Garrett was named All-NFL for the fourth straight season (2020-23), the longest current streak among active players. Kelce, Martin, Parsons and Williams were all selected for the third straight season.
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald made the All-NFL team for the eighth time overall (2015-21, 2023), which broke a tie with Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White for the most PFWA first-team All-NFL selections by a defensive tackle (the PFWA selected a first and second All-NFL team from 1968-76). Martin made the All-NFL team for the seventh time overall (2015-18, 2021-23), while Kelce is a six-time All-NFL selection (2017-19, 2021-23) – which broke a tie with Pro Football Hall of Famers Dermontti Dawson, Kevin Mawae, Dwight Stephenson and Mike Webster for the most first-team selections by a center in PFWA All-NFL history.
Garrett (2020-23) and Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt (2019-21, 2023) are four-time All-NFL selections, while Parsons (2021-23), 49ers middle linebacker Fred Warner (2020, 2022-23) and Williams (2021-23) are three-time All-NFL selections. Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill also is a three-time All-NFL selection (1996 at punt returner, 2022-23 at wide receiver).
A total of 10 players are first-time All-NFL honorees.
Baltimore, Kansas City, the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh each have two players on the All-NFL team. In all, 16 clubs are represented among the 27 players honored by the PFWA.
The All-NFL offense includes the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson at quarterback (second selection; 2019), the 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey (second selection; 2019) and the Rams’ Kyren Williams (first selection) at running back, Hill and the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb (first selection) at wide receiver, the 49ers’ George Kittle (second selection; 2019) at tight end, Kelce at center, Martin and the Chiefs’ Joe Thuney (first selection) at guard and the Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell (first selection) and Williams at tackle.
The All-NFL defense includes Garrett and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson (second selection; 2020) at defensive end, Donald and Jones at defensive tackle, Parsons and Watt at outside linebacker, Warner at middle linebacker, the Cowboys’ DaRon Bland (first selection) and Gardner at cornerback and the Atlanta Falcons’ Jessie Bates III (first selection) with the Ravens’ Kyle Hamilton (first selection) at safety.
The All-NFL special teams group is comprised of Cowboys placekicker Brandon Aubrey (first selection), Las Vegas punter A.J. Cole (second selection; 2021), Nixon at kick returner, New Orleans Saints punt returner Rashid Shaheed (first selection) and Steelers’ special teamer Miles Killebrew (first selection).
The PFWA also announced the 2023 All-AFC and All-NFC teams. Baltimore and Kansas City led the AFC with four selections, while Miami placed three on the squad. Dallas led all NFC clubs with seven selections, San Francisco had five NFC honorees and Detroit had four selections.
The PFWA has selected an All-NFL team since 1966, and All-AFC and All-NFC teams since 1992.
