Report: Washington State adds Shaver to staff

Utah State co-defensive coordinator Kendrick Shaver is headed to Washington State to join the coaching staff in a yet-to-be-defined role, The Seattle Times reported.

Earlier this month, Washington State lost defensive coordinator Alex Grinch to Ohio State and subsequently hired former Minnesota head coach Tracy Claeys to take Grinch's position.

Shaver will take the spot on the staff left by outside linebackers coach Roy Manning after he left to become special teams coordinator for new UCLA head coach Chip Kelly.

Grinch was largely responsible for transforming Washington State's defense from one of the worst in the country to among the top 20 this past season in total defense.

Shaver was at Utah State for six seasons. His tenure was marked by the Aggies finishing among the nation's top 25 in pass efficiency defense.

The 2017 season was Shaver's second as co-defensive coordinator and his first as outside linebackers coach at Utah State.
