Seahawks OT Brown receives 3-year, $36M extension
Seahawks offensive tackle Duane Brown enters the 2018 season with a contract extension.
The Seattle Seahawks reached agreement with left tackle Duane Brown on a three-year, $36.5 million contract extension, multiple media outlets reported Saturday.
Brown appeared to confirm the deal with a tweet Saturday afternoon that said: "Looking forward to playing the rest of my career here!"
The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Brown was acquired last year by the Seahawks in a trade with the Houston Texans along with a fifth-round draft pick for a second-round pick in 2018 and a third-round selection in 2018.
Brown would have been entering the final year of his contract worth $9.75 million in 2018. The new deal extends the longevity of his contract through the 2021 season.
The 32-year-old Brown is in his 11th year in the NFL and stabilizes Seattle's offensive line in front of quarterback Russell Wilson. The offensive line had been considered one of the Seahawks' areas of concern the past few seasons.
"Duane made an immediate impression on us when he got here," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday, via the Seattle Times. "This is a real leader. He's a real man in that huddle and in the locker room, and we're very, very fortunate to have him.
"Great worker, he's really an astute ball player, got a great voice in perspective. He's going to help other guys. Last year was right in the middle of everything. He couldn't have the effect, but you could see the potential, and he's just taken off in the offseason and done a great job, and he's a great factor for us right now. I love to have him on my team."
After the trade last year, Brown played in nine games for the Seahawks. He injured an ankle in his second game with his new team and that affected his mobility the remainder of the season, but he still was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career.
"Duane Brown is a difference maker, I think, in terms of how he plays the game," Wilson said, per the Seattle Times. "He's a phenomenal football player. We didn't have him last year early on in the season, but now that he's here it just shows up."
