Week 4: Varner was again held 15 snaps, but the big DE played a solid game in Wisconsin's 38-17 win. He recorded one QB pressure as he continues to round into playing shape. Varner was in on two tackles as well. — JH
Week 3: Varner's workload increased to 15 snaps in Wisconsin's rout of visiting Georgia Southern, 35-14. The DE recorded one QB pressure and no tackles. — JH
Week 2: The touted transfer DE from Temple was held out in Week 1 as he's coming back from a foot injury incurred last November. In Wisconsin's Week 2 road loss to Washington State, 31-22, Varner played eight snaps and did not record any defensive statistics. — JH

2022 (rs soph): Earned All-AAC recognition (AAC-first team, Phil Steel second team, Pro Football Network honorable mention) … voted by teammates as on of five captains for the 2022 season … had a career-high 3.5 sacks vs. Tulsa … Set a career high with six tackles at Navy … finished the season ranked T-16th in the nation and T-2nd in the AAC in sacks per game with 0.75, his 7.5 sacks and 12.5 TFLs ranked the second most for the Owls.
